SUMMARY:Rallye Motor Company Press Conference
DESCRIPTION:Location:Lexus Rallye20 Cedar RoadGlen Cove\, NY 11542 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us as we partner with Rallye Motor Company to celebrate Donate Life Month and raise awareness about the critical need for more Long Islanders to register in the NYS Donate Life Registry as organ and tissue donors. \n\n\n\nThis year’s event features a special story from Matt Carlson\, General Manager of Rallye BMW\, who received a life-saving kidney from his daughter last year. Now celebrating his health\, Matt is encouraging more New Yorkers to join the NYS Donate Life Registry. \n\n\n\nToday\, more than 8\,000 New Yorkers are currently on the waitlist for a life-changing organ\, and roughly 400 people on the transplant waitlist die each year due to a shortage of donors. The average national registration rate is 64%\, but Nassau County sits at 42% and Suffolk County at 54% – by increasing registration rates\, more New York lives will be saved.

SUMMARY:Donate Life NYS at the New York International Auto Show
DESCRIPTION:Location:Javits Center 429 11th Ave New York\, NY 10001 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome visit us at the New York International Auto Show to raise awareness about the life-changing power of organ and tissue donation!Last year\, New York achieved a significant milestone: for the first time\, a majority of age-eligible residents were registered as organ and tissue donors. This success is due in large part to our strong partnerships with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and the New York State Department of Health. More than 80% of new donor enrollments in the state come through the DMV.Despite this milestone\, nearly 8\,000 New Yorkers are still currently waiting for a life-saving transplant\, and hundreds lose their lives each year due to a lack of available organs. By coming together at events like the New York International Auto Show\, we can help build awareness and encourage more New Yorkers to Register as organ and tissue donors.

Frogs and toads are a sign of healing and renewal\, and water lilies represent hope. The lily pads we see on the surface of a pond are part of a much larger plant rooted below the water. The water lily plant reminds us of the support and collaboration needed for hope to bloom. \n\n\n\nAs a friend and supporter of Donate Life NYS\, you play a significant role in our interconnected effort to save lives by making the community aware of the opportunity to “hop to it” and register their decision to be an organ\, eye\, and tissue donor. SUMMARY:National Minority Donor Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:National Minority Donor Awareness Month\, celebrated annually in August\, is a nationwide observance to save and improve the quality of life of diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ\, eye\, and tissue donation. Founded in 1996 by the National Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP)\, the observance aims to bring heightened awareness to the significant need for donation and transplantation affecting Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color (BIPOC) – focusing primarily on African American/Black\, Hispanic/Latinx\, Asian Pacific Islander and American Indian/Alaskan Native communities. \n\n\n\nPeople of most races and ethnicities in the U.S. donate in proportion to their representation in the population. The need for transplant is disproportionately high among BIPOC\, and particularly among African Americans/Blacks\, frequently due to a high incidence of conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes\, both of which can lead to the need for a kidney transplant. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor example\, African Americans/Blacks\, Asians and Pacific Islanders\, and Hispanics/Latinxs are three times more likely than Whites to suffer from end-stage renal (kidney) disease\, often as the result of high blood pressure and other conditions that can damage the kidneys. While African Americans/Blacks make up about 15% of New York’s population\, they represent one-third of the people on New York’s organ transplant waiting list.

SUMMARY:National Donor Sabbath
DESCRIPTION:National Donor Sabbath provides an opportunity to discuss the critical need for organ and tissue donors and encourage donor registration in your house of worship. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNational Donor Sabbath is observed annually on Friday through Sunday two weekends before Thanksgiving. This 3-day observance seeks to include the days of worship for major religions practiced in the United States. \n\n\n\nDuring National Donor Sabbath\, faith leaders\, donor families\, transplant recipients\, and donation and transplantation professionals participate in services and programs to increase awareness of the need for the lifesaving and enhancing gifts passed to others through transplantation and encourage people to sign up in the New York State Donate Life Registry. Those who donate organs\, tissues\, and blood stem cells restore hope and share gifts beyond measure. \n\n\n\nThe participation of faith leaders is important. \n\n\n\nPeople look to their faith leaders for guidance when making end-of-life decisions like organ and tissue donation. \n\n\n\nToday\, most faith communities are supportive of organ and tissue donation\, and the individual choices of its members. Many view donation as an act of compassion and generosity. Since people often turn to their faith leaders for help when dealing with life and death issues\, National Donor Sabbath provides an opportunity for faith communities to share their views and join in the conversation. \n\n\n\nFaith leaders of all religious denominations can build awareness and help inspire more community members to register as organ and tissue donors by participating in National Donor Sabbath and holding informational events throughout the year. \n\n\n\nWays to Celebrate National Donor Sabbath\n\n\n\nFaith communities and individuals wishing to plan National Donor Sabbath events may contact us for additional information and support. We can help you develop and implement strategies and identify speakers\, such as a transplant recipient to share a personal story of getting a second chance at life. Here are some simple ways to celebrate National Donor Sabbath: \n\n\n\nInform your religious leader that National Donor Sabbath takes place November 13-15\, 2020. Request that he or she devotes a sermon to organ donation and how religion encourages all of us to save lives.  Collaborate with your Faith Based Leader to identify members of your congregation who have been personally impacted by donation or transplantation. You may also contact us to request a speaker from Donate Life New York State to present at your special event or service.Include information in your bulletin\, newsletter and on your house of worship’s website and social media channels. \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n Download our National Donor Sabbath Toolkit \n \n\n \n\n \n Download Toolkit

SUMMARY:National Minority Donor Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:An initiative to save and improve the quality of life of diverse communities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNational Minority Donor Awareness Month\, celebrated annually in August\, is a nationwide observance to save and improve the quality of life of diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ\, eye\, and tissue donation. \n\n\n\nFor example\, African Americans/Blacks\, Asians and Pacific Islanders\, and Hispanics/Latinxs are three times more likely than Whites to suffer from end-stage renal (kidney) disease\, often as the result of high blood pressure and other conditions that can damage the kidneys. While African Americans/Blacks make up about 15% of New York’s population\, they represent one-third of the 8\,018 people on New York’s organ transplant waiting list. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nData and Statistics\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRace/Ethnicity% of NY Population% of Organ Waitlist% of Organ Transplants (2019)% of Organ Donors (2019)White55%34%47%62%African American/Black18%33%23%15%Hispanic/Latinx19%21%19%17%Asian9%11%9%5%American Indian/Alaska Native1%0%0%0%Pacific Islander0%0%0%0%Multiracial3%1%1%0%\n\n\n\n	\n Featured Stories of Hope\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n "I named my kidney 'Hercules.'
