Doorways to Donation Act of 2022: Urge Gov. Hochul to Sign A.10186 (Gunther)/S.8805(Breslin)

Thanks to you and the Donate Life NYS community, the Doorways to Donation Act of 2022 (A.10186 Gunther/S.8805 Breslin) passed both the NYS Assembly and the Senate – but we still need your help to make sure this legislation becomes law!

The bill was delivered to Governor Kathy Hochul on December 12th and now we must urge her to sign it. If enacted, this lifesaving legislation will integrate the donor designation question into administrative processes by which individuals obtain, renew, and manage their health insurance coverage. Allowing New Yorkers to join the Registry during the process of enrolling in and managing their health insurance offers an ideal venue, as they are already considering healthcare options and choices.

Increasing opportunities for New Yorkers to enroll as organ and tissue donors is an effective, common sense approach to increase the availability of lifesaving organs for the 7,962 patients currently listed in NYS for transplant. Over the past decade, this policy strategy has been immensely effective with over one million Registry enrollments generated by sources other than the DMV.

Help us ensure this positive trajectory continues by asking the Governor to sign this lifesaving legislation!

Please take a few minutes this week to email, call, and/or tweet NY State Governor Kathy Hochul and ask her to sign the Doorways to Donation Act of 2022 (A.10186/S.8805) into law without amendment.

Donate Life New York State is asking you to use the resources below and take the following steps listed in order of priority to make sure the voice of our Donate Life community is heard:

1. Email Governor Hochul’s office (see template below): legislative.secretary@exec.ny.gov. Please copy Aisha Tator, Executive Director, (atator@dlnys.org) on your emails so we can monitor how many contacts are being sent to the Governor.
